2009 CCS Season, Round 2 - Road America, May 1 - 3

Man, we were living like rock stars this year AGAIN! Five straight days of riding Road America in the most beautiful weather we could have possibly desired. We headed up to Road America on Thursday night and setup camp for the CCS weekend and then stayed over for the NESBA day on Monday and Tuesday. Our good buddy Dave Darcy brought up his toy hauler and provided us bed and board for the whole five days. We were feeling like rock stars I tell ya!

Hix racing has grown a bit this year with the official addition of two riders to the team. In addition to Ron Hix, Brian Blume is contending a 2008 Suzuki GSXR 1000 in the Expert ranks and Ian Flaws is riding Ron's bike from last year (2006 Suzuki GSXR 1000) in the Amateur class. We picked up the 2008 GSXR's from Mark Junge and the bikes did not disappoint.

This was our first race weekend on the new 2008 bikes and right out of the gate these new bikes were very fast with the GPS units showing a legit 180MPH. It took us several practice sessions and several more races before we got the bikes to handle and feel like we wanted, but once we got them dialed in they were very confidence inspiring. By the end of the 3 day CCS event we were consistently competing for podiums in our races.

Since we were in bad need of some track time, Brian and Ron entered the Team Challenge in hopes of knocking off some rust from a long winter. Ron was so jacked up to finally be racing again that he completely destroyed the tires in 20 laps before handing the bike over to Brian. During the pit stop, Brian asked Ron how the tires were and Ron told him, "Done, don't be a hero. Just bring it home." Thankfully, Ron had built up a good lead and Brian was a good sport and just nussed it home for the team's first win of the season. Hix Racing won the overall with a 57 second margin, picked up a big trophy and a nice write-up on Roadracing World, pretty sweet.

Roadracing World Article

Brian Blume has really picked up a lot of speed from last season and this was Ian's first race weekend. Brian dropped almost 10 seconds and Ian stepped up to the plate and swung for the fences right off the bat getting his first win!

Overall, the whole team an excellent job.
